First Wedding Cake

An old friend of mine, saw my cakes that I had posted on Facebook. She asked if I would make a wedding cake for her future sister-in-law. I was a little reluctant at first, since I had never done anything that big and not for family. So after a little of telling my self that I could do it, I told her yes. This cake was a first for me on so many levels, I had never done draping, fresh flowers, ribbon, and a cake that large. I was really nervous that I would mess something up. But I pulled it off and it turned out amazing. I did learn that star glazier lilies are very delicate and die very fast. They have a brown stem inside the flower that is poisonous to the flower, that has to be removed as soon as they start to bloom or the lily will die. Somethings for the future that I learned is to make sure the cake board is big enough and Wilton's flower picks are not the greatest. I need to find the best way to put fresh flowers into the cakes.
